About …

Back Bone • Since 1993

Backbone designs and manufactures a whole range of products for paramotors, the incomparable aircraft for the pleasure of flight and the discovery of new horizons. Since 1993, Thierry Simonet, a parachutist and paraglider pilot since 1984, has been working on the concept of a simple, lightweight, high-performance paramotor, and transportable in the trunk of a car, or the hold of an airplane.
In 1995, the first paramotor using a small-displacement engine, a 125cc, was released. centrifugal clutch, a fiberglass "bundle" cage, all fitting into a suitcase-sized bag. In 1996, while all the engines used came from the agricultural sector with displacements ranging from 200 to 430cc, used either directly or with belt drive, we worked with Massimo Rossetti of Vittorazi on a mini-motorcycle engine to create the first engine specifically designed for paramotoring: a 67cc with a centrifugal clutch, mechanical reduction gear, and liquid cooling. In 2000, again in collaboration with Massimo Rossetti, we released the first engine designed entirely for paramotors : the ROS 100. The range evolved and expanded with four other engine options, including the ROS 125 Light, which, often imitated, remains popular even today unrivaled in terms of weight/power/reliability ratio.
In order to offer our products a ratio unmatched weight/strength, We use only aluminum (7020) and steel. aeronautics (4130), and in the spirit of paramotoring, our entire range is fully demountable and offers maximum foldability, even fitting into a suitcase with the "Voyager" option.

unique pieces

Manufacturing workshop • Custom design

In our manufacturing workshop, each paramotor is designed as a unique piece, Crafted with precision and exacting standards. Far from standardized production, we cultivate an artisanal approach where every detail counts. True to our spirit of innovation, we offer a custom design, This allows each machine to be tailored to the pilot's specific needs: choice of materials, weight optimization, engine configuration, and transport options. This customized approach results in unique machines where performance, reliability, and freedom of flight combine in a perfectly controlled balance.
